NAPERVILLE, Ill. (Apr. 25, 2023) - Playing at Benedetti-Wehrli Stadium for the first time since April 8, the North Central College women's lacrosse team saw their winning streak come to an end on Tuesday night as they fell 21-5 to Carthage College.
The Firebirds (10-6, 3-2 CCIW) kicked off the scoring just 33 seconds into the game but Abby MacKenzie netted the equalizer two minutes later. The Carthage offense came alive as they scored nine unanswered goals to extend their lead to 10-1. Tanya Czosek stopped the scoring streak with 7:45 remaining as she netted her 38th goal of the season. The Firebirds rattled off four more goals at the end of the half to extend their lead to 14-2.
Czosek kicked off the second half with an unassisted goal with 11:50 remaining in the third quarter but the Carthage offense found their momentum once again, scoring seven unanswered goals to give them a comfortable 21-3 lead. Abby Tointon and Ellie Gosselin each scored with under six minutes to bring the final score to 21-5.
Rachel Harris of Carthage led all scorers with five goals while Czosek led the Cardinals with two goals. Bella LaRocco tallied seven saves as she fell to 5-11 on the season.
The Cardinals host 17th-ranked University of Chicago in their season finale on Saturday. The opening draw is set for 1 pm inside Benedetti-Wehrli Stadium.
