Apr. 26, 2023 - The North Central College women's track and field team moves to No. 23 in the latest United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) national rankings while remaining fifth in the Midwest region.
Five Cardinals rank among the top 25 in their respective events. Lindsey Novak is tied for 12th place in the 100-meter dash (12.01) while Marcedes Jackson is in 24th (12.08). Novak is also nationally ranked in 17th in the 200-meter dash (24.79) and 400-meter dash at 13th place (56.71). Gwen Berenyi is 22nd in the pole vault (3.65m), Alexandra Draves is eighth in the hammer throw (56.16m), and Faith Ladin is 22nd in the javelin throw (39.68m). In the 100-meter hurdles, Julia Babinec is ranked nine (14.15) with Denise Partee right behind her in tenth (14.20). In the women's 4x100 the Cardinals (Jackson, Babinec, Novak, Partee) are ranked eighth with a time of 47.08.
The top five national rankings have continued to hold their standings as UW-La Crosse continues to hold steady at No.1 with Loras trailing close behind, followed by Washington University (MO.), Chicago University, and Johns Hopkins. Mount Union moves up eight spots to take hold of the sixth-place ranking. Dubuque moves down to 7th, while Emory remains at 8th, accompanied by Wartburg at 9th and MIT closing out the top 10.
Meanwhile, in the Midwest region rankings, the top 7 has remained the same as Washington comes in at No.1 preceded by Chicago at No.2, Loras at No. 3, Wartburg at No.4, North Central at No.5, Dubuque at No. 6, and Central (IA) at No. 7. Nebraska Wesleyan leaps two spots to No. 8, Greenville sticks at No. 9, and Elmhurst falls to No.10.
The Cardinals split up this weekend, sending relay teams to the Drake Relays on Apr. 27-29 while also taking part in the Elmhurst Invite on April 27-28 and the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater on Apr. 28th.
