WHEATON, Ill. (Apr. 29, 2023) - Playing in their third straight College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin Championship, the North Central College men's tennis team suffered a 5-4 loss to Carthage College in a match that came down to the final singles match.

Ramon Vilarroig Martinez and Guillermo Gonzalez Fernandez cruised to an 8-2 win in the No. 1 position before Matthew Sengphommachanh and Daniel Estanislao earned a hard fought 8-5 win in the No. 3 spot to give the Cardinals an important 2-1 advantage heading into singles play.

The Firebirds tied the contest at 2-2 with a win at No. 3 singles. Vilarroig Martinez captured a 6-2, 6-3 win to put the Cardinals back in the lead. Colten Way secured another North Central win with a 6-1, 7-5 win in the No. 6 spot. Carthage fought back and earned wins at No. 2 and No. 4 to tie the match at 4-4. Luca Okino overcame a 6-2 loss in set one to clinch the 5-4 win for Carthage.

The Cardinals finish the season with a 17-8 overall record, with a 6-1 mark in conference play.
