ORLANDO, Fla. (May 18, 2023) - Representing the North Central College men's tennis team at the NCAA Division III Individual National Championships, Ramon Vilarroig Martinez fell 6-1, 6-4 to Aiden Drover-Mattinen of Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute on Thursday morning at the USTA National Campus

The first set went to Drover-Mattinen, the No. 2 ranked singles player in Region II, with a 6-1 win. Vilarroig Martinez took a 4-3 lead in the second set but Drover-Mattinen won three in a row to win 6-4 and advance to the second round.

Vilarroig Martinez is the first Cardinal since 2011 to compete in the national championships since Sam Sweeney '11 made back-to-back appearances in the event. 

He finished his junior campaign with a 17-6 overall record in singles play and was named the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin Player of the Year for his performance in conference action.
