NAPERVILLE, Ill. (Sept. 16, 2026) – Philipp Wottgen swept his way through the top singles flight of the College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW) Fall Invitational this past weekend, helping him earn his second career weekly honor.

Wottgen began his tournament last Friday, defeating Andrew Jang of Wheaton College 8-3. He then battled Millikin's Colin Klein in the semifinal.

Wottgen won the match, but it took a tiebreaker. Knotted at seven, the pair played a tiebreaking game, a game that Wottgen won 7-5 to win the match 8-7.

The Cardinal junior returned on Saturday to face Santiago Diaz of Augustana College in the championship match. Wottgen won the best-of-three contest in straight sets, defeating Diaz 6-4, 6-2 to claim the top spot on the podium.

Wottgen, who was an All-CCIW First Team selection a year ago (along with teammate Henry Ros), went 13-14 in singles play, going 10-11 from the number one singles slot and 5-2 in CCIW play. He also collected a 5-2 doubles record in CCIW play last season, playing the majority of the season with Ros as his partner.

The German import won his first weekly award in April of this year after a 6-0 weekend between singles and doubles play.

North Central is back on the court in early October for the Intercollegiate Tennis Association Central Region Championships in Brownsburg, Indiana.
