Apr. 5, 2023 - After raking in the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin (CCIW) Field Athlete of the Week awards in the indoor season, North Central College women's track and field thrower, Alexandra Draves, hints at doing the same for the outdoor season as she was named this week's honoree for her hammer throw performance at this weekend's Spartan Opener hosted by the University of Dubuque. The CCIW announced its selections on Wednesday.

Draves who dominated in the weight throw indoors turns her focus to the hammer throw for outdoors where she improved her personal best mark by two feet with a 177-foot, eight-inch throw to finish second at the Spartan Opener. Her mark currently ranks third on the program's all-time list while leading all CCIW competitors and ranking fifth nationally. Draves also turned in a personal-best effort in the discus throw (39.28m).

North Central currently ranks fifth in the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) Midwest region rankings, the highest ranking of all CCIW member institutions. 

North Central hosts the First Chance Invitational on Friday, April 7 at Benedetty-Wehrli Stadium. Throwing events are set for 12 p.m. with events on the track beginning at 3:45 p.m.
