LISLE. Ill. (Apr. 7, 2023) - Moving to 5-0 in College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin play, the North Central College men's tennis team won five of six singles matches on their way to a 6-3 win over Millikin University on Friday afternoon.
Claiming the lone doubles win for the Cardinals was the tandem of
Daniel Estanislao and
Matthew Sengphommachanh in the No. 3 spot with an 8-4 win. The Big Blue took care of business at No. 1 and No. 2 to take a 2-1 lead into singles play.
Matt Crossland won the first singles match of the day with a 6-0, 6-2 win in the No. 6 spot.
Guillermo Gonzalez Fernandez gave North Central a 3-2 lead with a 6-1, 6-2 victory at No. 4. At the No. 1 singles position,
Javier Suarez Balsera won 6-1, 6-2 before Sengphommachanh clinched the victory with his 6-4, 6-2 win at No. 2 singles. Estanislao went the distance and picked up a 0-6, 6-4, 6-1 win in the No. 3 slot to give North Central a 6-3 win as they improve to 14-5 overall and 5-0 in CCIW play.
North Central takes on the top-ranked team in the nation for the second time this season in No. 1 Case Western Reserve University tomorrow. Action is set to begin at 10 a.m. at Benet Academy Tennis Courts.
