LISLE. Ill. (Apr. 8, 2023) - Facing the No. 1 team in the country for the second time this season, the North Central College men's tennis team dropped their final non-conference match of the season to No. 1 Case Western Reserve University on Saturday at the Benet Academy Tennis Courts.
The Cardinal duo of Colten way and Matt Crossland gave the Spartans their best effort as CWRU earned an 8-3 win at No. 1 doubles. In the No. 1 and No. 2 positions, the Spartans won 8-2 to hold a 3-0 lead heading into singles play.
Case Western Reserve clinched the victory with wins at No. 6 and No. 2. In the No. 1 spot, Javier Suarez Balsera took the No. 14 ranked singles player in the Central Region to three sets but ultimately fell 1-6, 6-3, 4-10. After winning the first set against the Spartans, Daniel Estanislao dropped the next two sets in a 7-5, 2-6, 3-10 loss at No. 3.
North Central returns to CCIW play on Friday as they visit Augustana College. The dual is set to begin at 3 p.m. at the Lower Campus Courts.
