Lindsey Novak has been selected as this week's College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin (CCIW) Track Athlete of the Week honoree after turning in a record-breaking performance in the 200-meter dash at the Elmhurst University Invitational.
Novak's personal best effort of 24.34 seconds in the 200-meter dash was good for a first-place finish while breaking a 26-year-old program record for the outdoor 200-meter dash previously held by Lakeya Boatright. Her time is the best in the CCIW and is fifth-best in the national rankings.
Novak also turned in a first-place finish in the 4-by-100-meter relay with Faith Ladin, Cali Minkie, and Denise Partee (4:01.06) on Friday while also finishing third in the 4-by-100-meter relay with Marcedes Jackson, Julia Babinec, and Minkie.
North Central moved up four spots in the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) national rankings, coming in at No. 19. UW-La Crosse, Loras, and Washington (Mo.) hold the top three spots in the nation. Regionally, the Cardinals rank fifth with Washington (Mo.), Loras, Chicago, and Wartburg making up the region's top-five teams.
The Cardinals head to Waukesha, Wisconsin for the CCIW Outdoor Championships May 5-6. The competition at the Dennis Punches Track & Field Complex is set to start at 10 a.m. on Friday.
