ITA DIII Men's Tennis Scholar Athletes

July 12, 2023 - Four members of the North Central College men's tennis team have earned Intercollegiate Tennis Association's Scholar Athlete awards, the organization announced on Wednesday.

To qualify for ITA Scholar-Athlete recognition, student-athletes must earn a varsity letter, have a cumulative GPA of 3.50, and have been enrolled at their present institution for at least two semesters. Jacob Mersch, Ethan Sherman, and Javier Suarez Balsera are all multiple-time honorees while Matt Crossland earned his first ITA Scholar Athlete award. 

The Cardinals finished the season with a 17-8 overall record while posting a 6-1 record in College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin play. Three members earned All-CCIW honors with Ramon Vilarroig Martinez becoming the second player in program history to compete in the NCAA Division III Single Tournament. 

North Central opens the 2023-2024 season on September 9th as they host the CCIW Fall Invite.
