PLAINFIELD, Ill. (Aug. 26, 2023) - Opening their fall schedule by hosting the NCC Invite, the North Central College women's tennis team defeated Lake Forest College in the morning before taking down Loras College and Illinois Institute of Technology in the afternoon to begin the season 3-0.

Mikayla Edquiban/Kayla McSweeney earned the first win of the year with an 8-3 win in the No. 3 position. Shortly after, Abigail Penados/Natalie Bassett cruised to an 8-3 win at No. 1 doubles. Completing the doubles sweep, Kensington Payne/Anastasia Bozovic picked up an 8-5 victory in the No. 2 spot.

Bozovic secured the first singles win of the day with a 6-2, 6-3 win at No. 6. Clinching the match for the Cardinals was Edquiban with a 6-0, 6-3 victory in the No. 4 spot. Penados and McSweeney also earned wins for North Central.

In the afternoon slate, the Cardinals swept their way through Illinois Tech and Loras. Eva Zaskowski and Adriana Enacopol won their first collegiate matches in doubles play as Zaskowski also picked up a win in the No. 5 singles spot as North Central won 9-0 over the Scarlet Hawks. Against Loras, Kate Herlihy teamed up with Penados to earn the first win of her college career. Meghan McSweeney paired up with her sister Kayla to take an 8-1 victory at No. 3 doubles on the way to the Cardinals' 9-0 win over the Duhawks.

The Cardinals kick off College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin play on Saturday morning with a 9 a.m. match against Carroll University at Benet Academy.
