Cardinals Claim 5th Straight Win to Begin Season

LISLE, Ill. (Sept. 2, 2023) - Kicking off their College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin slate, the North Central College women's tennis team rolled to a 9-0 sweep of the Carroll Pioneers before taking down Concordia University Chicago in their fourth 9-0 victory of the season.

Abigail Penados and Natalie Bassett earned an 8-2 win in the No. 1 doubles spot while Kensington Payne and Anastasia Bozovic captured an 8-4 win at No. 2. Completing the doubles sweep, Mikayla Edquiban and Kate Herlihy won 8-2 over the Pioneers' No. 3 doubles team.

Penados won her 10th straight CCIW match with a 6-0, 6-0 victory over Natasha Pupovac in the No. 1 singles spot. In the No. 2 position, Bassett cruised to a 6-0, 6-1 to clinch the team win before Payne won 6-3, 6-1 at the No. 3 fixture. Edquiban, Herlihy, and Kayla McSweeney each won in straight sets to finish off the sweep.

The duos of Bozovic/K. McSweeney and Meghan McSweeny/Eva Zaskowski picked up 8-0 wins in doubles play while Liveta Ezerskis and Nina Patience won 8-2 in the No. 2 spot in doubles action. Herlihy and Bozovic each won via a clean 6-0, 6-0 sweep in singles play as every Cardinal won in straight sets for the 9-0 victory.

The Cardinals look to win their 36th straight CCIW win on Friday with a matchup against Carthage College at 3 p.m. at Benet Academy Tennis Courts in Lisle.
