Aug. 3, 2023 - North Central College Athletics and Head Baseball Coach Ed Mathey '86 named Connor Christman M '23 as the new Cardinals' assistant coach prior to the start of the 2023-24 athletic season.

Christman served as the graduate assistant coach for the Cardinals baseball program during the 2022 and 2023 seasons. North Central posted a 62-28 overall record in those two seasons with a College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin Regular Season Title and a second-place finish at the NCAA Regional Championships.

"In his two years as our GA, Connor has not only shown the ability to coach our student-athletes at a high level but has also shown an ability to communicate and relate to them as well. Growing up around the professional baseball evaluation world and having played NCAA Division I baseball, Connor has absorbed much knowledge to help our student-athletes be the best that they can be," said Mathey.

Christman played collegiate baseball at Butler University in Indianapolis, Ind. from 2016-2020. He was named a team captain as well as appeared on the Big East All-Academic Team in 2019 and 2020. 

"I am honored and excited to be the next assistant baseball coach at North Central and help continue with the success of the program, Christman said. "Having been the graduate assistant for the last two years, I was able to learn the way we do things here at North Central. I made connections with coaches and organizations to build my baseball network and sharing an office with (former assistant coach) Joe Heller allowed me to assist with the day-to-day operations."

The Cardinals tallied a 27-14 record this past season with five All-CCIW players, four All-Region awards, and a D3baseball.com fourth-team All-American selection in Nolan Shannon.

"I would like to thank the senior director of athletics, Jim Miller '86, the hiring committee, and coach Mathey. I am extremely excited to be the assistant baseball coach at NCC and cannot wait to get started," Christman said.

North Central baseball will begin in February. The 2024 schedule will be released at a later date.
