NORTHFIELD, Minn. (Sept. 1, 2023) – The North Central College women's soccer team start their season with a 1-0 record on Friday afternoon after shutting out the St. Olaf Oles at Rolf Mellby Field.
The game would go scoreless until the final five minutes in the first half of regulation with the first Cardinals goal of the season from
Sarah Andrey assisted by
Sophia Hein and
Erin Jaskierski.
Coming into the second half at 1-0 the momentum would continue with a goal from
Elle Sutter in the 63
rd minute of regulation. Just twelve minutes later the Cardinals would be given a penalty kick taken by
Katie Huey which would take the team to a 3-0 lead.
With six minutes left in regulation
Tabitha Schaver with an assist from
Holly Helmers would ice the game to 4-0 with a shot over the goalkeeper.
The Cardinals defense held the Oles to only 8 shots while taking 17 of their own.
Jordan Boyd would play the full 90 minutes at goal tallying the first 2 saves of the season.
The Cardinals complete their first road trip of the season against Carleton College on Sunday Sept. 3
rd at Bell Field. Kick-off is set for 10:30 AM.
