East Lansing, MI. (Sept 16, 2023) The number 1 ranked North Central College Cardinals split up this weekend as they competed in the 8,000 – meter races at Michigan State University Spartan Invitational and the Gil Dodds Invitational. The Cardinals take third place in the MSU Spartan Invite and finish fifth in the Gil Dodds Invitational.
Connor Riss would storm his way to an eighth-place finish in the meet with a time of 24:57.3. He would run this race keeping up a solid pace of 5:01 throughout the entire race. Braden Nicholson would be the second Cardinal to cross the line in 16th place in a time of 25:09.6 running a smooth pace of 5:03. The next scoring Cardinals would be BJ Sorg (25:20.9) placing 23rd, Max Svienty (25.26.7) placing 28th ,along with Drew Guimond (25:29.0) placing 29th.
The Cardinals finished third in the meet with 86 points. Michigan State University would finish first in the meet scoring 28 points, Grand Valley State University finished second with 52 points, Miami University (Ohio) placed fourth with 105 points, and in fifth place is Kent State University with 133 points.
The Cardinals at the Gil Dodds Invitational would finish fifth as a team with Ishaan Patel leading the way finishing in 22nd with a time of 25:34 with a pace of 5:04 throughout. The next four scoring Cardinals would be Austin Emrath (25:44) in 28th, Aidan Armstrong (25:52) for 31st, Logan Tanttu (25:540) finishing 33rd, and the fifth scorer would be Matt Shimenetto (25:55) finishing 35th to round out the Cardinal scorers.
The Cardinals will split up again the next time they take course again on September 30th for the Greater Louisville Classic in Louisville Kentucky as well as the Brissman-Lundeen Invitational hosted by Augustana College in Rock Island, Illinois.
