Sept. 17, 2023 – The North Central College women's soccer team celebrated their 2023 senior class against Transylvania University Sunday, finding opportunities late in the second half to push ahead of the Pioneers, 2-1, at Benedetti-Wehrli Stadium.

Starting the first half, the possession was firmly with North Central but, only Transylvania would find room to thread a shot through the defense by Caitlin Fike in the 21^st minute to make the score 1-0.

Even with dominating possession of the ball for a staggering 65 percent of the half, the Cardinals found themselves coming up short with Transylvania goalkeeper Chandler Worth able to fend off four shot attempts.

Entering the second half, North Central looked to put the Transylvania defense on notice when just 3 minutes in, Jordan Lange fired a shot that was just saved by Worth.

The Cardinals were not finished yet as seven minutes later, on relentless drive down the field, Gabriella Galvez relayed a pass to Sarah Andrey to finally place North Central on the board and tie the score at 1-1.

A back and forth series of offensive possessions between Transylvania and North Central ticked the clock down to just ten minutes left in regulation.

The Cardinals (6-2) capitalized in the 83^rd minute, finding shooting room as Elle Sutter put away her eighth goal of the season with an assist from Kaitlyn Cannon squeezing out a one goal lead with seven minutes to go.

Transylvania (4-3-1) would battle to take possession back but North Central denied that effort taking the ball down the field one last time, with Sutter putting up a shot which was just saved by Worth with twenty seconds left.

North Central women's soccer continues their home stretch on Wednesday Sept. 20^th as they face the Adrian College Bulldogs. The game is set to start at 7 p.m. in Benedetti-Wehrli Stadium.
