Sept. 30th, 2023 – The North Central College Cardinals men's cross-country team competed in in 8,000 meter races in the Greater Louisville Classic. The Cardinals make a statement with this race as they get ready for championship racing.
In the Louisville meet the Cardinals would hold their own against Division I as well as Division II competition as they finish fifth in the entire competition. The first Cardinal across the line finishing in sixth place is Max Svienty running a personal best time of 23:51.5. Max came through the 3.9k mark at 11:26.4 and it was around here he established himself more in the front pack group. The second Cardinal across the line is Connor Riss finishing 29th as he ran 24:16.6 as he made a late surge in the race passing 23 people in the last half of the race. The other scoring Cardinals are Braden Nicholson finishing 46th (24:29.4), Andrew Guimond finishing 48th (24:30.5), as well as BJ Sorg finishing 62nd (24:39.9).
The top five finishers of the races are Grand Valley University (#4 in Division II) with 104 points, Adams State University in second with 105 points(#2 in Division II), Purdue University in third with 160, West Texas A&M University in fourth with 164 points (#7 team in Division II), and in fifth place is the North Central College Cardinals with 191 points(#2 team in Division III).
Coach Matthew Sinnot is very pleased with this meets as he says, "We came to the Louisville Classic Gold Race to test ourselves in a field that would be just as competitive as the National meet. We got a really good look at all the things we have been putting together in practice, and we learned several more things we have to work on. All in all, it was great, positive reinforcement for the work these guys are putting in."
The Cardinals compete again in two weeks in the Augustana Interregional Invitational in Rock Island, Illinois.
