ROCK ISLAND, Ill. (Oct. 12, 2024) – The North Central College men's and women's swimming and diving teams opened their 2024 campaign on the road against Augustana College. The men fell 44-153 while the women fell 24-168.
On the mens side, the 200-yard freestyle relay saw
Casey Bretz,
Mihir Chandra,
Julius Markowski, and
Jack Newman take home a third best time of 1:35.63. Chandra secured first best times in the 50-yard freestyle (21.85) and 100-yard breaststroke (1:00.68). Bretz represented the Cardinals in second for the 200-yard individual medley (2:02.32) and third in the 100-yard breaststroke (57.26).
Griffin Laurin nabbed fourth in both 200-yard freestyle (1:57.95) and 100-yard butterfly (58.88). The 100-yard freestyle saw Newman take a third place position finishing in 55.51 seconds.
The women's side had
Celina McDaniel,
Abigael Sheldon,
Amelia Minarik, and
Raia Uvakova finish just .25 seconds behind Augustana's second squad, setting a baseline time of 2:04.50 in the 200-yard medley relay. The 50-yard freestyle had Uvakova snatch fourth (26.57) and Sheldon follow in fifth (26.73). Uvakova And Sheldon also secured a fourth best time in 100-yard events with Uvakova taking a time of 59.34 seconds in the freestyle and Sheldon setting in 1:15.32 in the breaststroke. McDaniel also secured a fourth best time in the 100-yard butterfly with a time of 1:07.33.
