DECATUR, Ill. (Oct. 16, 2024) – The North Central College women's soccer team flew to their third straight shutout win as they took down the Millikin University Big Blues 6-0 on the road.

North Central (11-4, 3-1 CCIW) came firing out of the gates two minutes in as Holly Helmers fired off the first shot that sailed past Myka Smith for a 1-0 lead. Millikin (9-2-1, 1-2 CCIW) fired off a quick burst of two shots in the 6th minute in an attempt to tie the game. Sixty seconds later Yazmin Martinez broke away for a pass to Sarah Andrey for the second goal of the match.

The Big Blues did not find their first shot-on-goal attempt until the 20th minute when Olivia Mattison saved an attempt from Izzy Jones. Five minutes later Elle Sutter snapped a shot past Smith for her first goal. It did not take long for Sutter to find room again seven minutes later to force a dominant 4-0 lead over Millikin.

The Cardinals continued to keep the pressure on as one hundred seconds later, Gabriella Mattio assisted Madelyn Camaioni for a goal. With just over ten minutes remaining, North Central carried the staggering 5-0 lead into halftime.

The second half saw the Cardinals ease off the pressure, not finding their first shot attempt until five minutes in. The first two shots tested the Millikin replacement goalkeeper, Madalyn Everly forcing back-to-back saves just thirty seconds apart.

The Big Blues fired another three attempts at Mattison over the next ten minutes. The final score of the match came off a pass from Gabriella Mattio to Sophia Hein to take a match-sealing score of 6-0.

The Cardinals have outscored the last three CCIW opponents 16-0, earning their third straight shutout. In total, North Central outshot Millikin 17-8. Defensively Mattison secured the net for all ninety minutes earning four saves.
