Oct. 9, 2024 – The North Central College women's soccer team continued their undefeated home record against Augustana College as
Elle Sutter led the effort with two goals for a 3-0 shutout victory.
North Central (9-4, 1-1 CCIW) looked to change their fortunes early after dropping two matches on the road.
Madison DeVriendt got the offense rolling early just over a minute into the action, making a pass to Sutter for the Cardinals first goal.
The Cardinals continued to keep Augustana (7-3-2, 1-2 CCIW) on the defensive driving for five more shots over the next twenty-five minutes. DeVriendt found a gap on the defense again in the 28th minute, for another assist to Sutter to push the lead to 2-0. North Central kept the pressure as DeVriendt and
Erin Jaskierski took shots within a minute of each other a minute later.
Augustana finally found a shooting opportunity in the 32nd minute as
Olivia Mattison secured it for her solo save of the match. The Cardinal dominance eased up over the final thirteen minutes of the half as Sutter would be the last shot before halftime.
Entering the last period, Sutter, DeVriendt, and
Kassandra Salviola each took turns firing off a total of four shots on goal forcing four saves from Sara Schinker in the first ten minutes. The next twenty-two minutes had the Cardinals put out another four shots to the Vikings one. With thirteen minutes left in the period, a costly penalty gave DeVriendt her first goal of the match to force a 3-0 crushing lead.
As the clock continued to tick down, Augustana continued to struggle to find scoring opportunities only sending one more shot allowing for an undefeated seven game home streak for North Central.
In total, the Cardinals outshot the Vikings twenty-eight to two with a staggering seventeen shots on goal. On defense, Mattison had one save opportunity through all ninety minutes.
