BELOIT, WI. (Nov. 16, 2024) – The North Central College men's and women's swimming and diving teams traveled for a double dual against Beloit University and the Milwaukee School of Engineering, winning two events while improving some of their season-best times.
On the women's side, the 200-yard medley relay had the team finish just behind Beloit in second between
Victoria Robinson,
Abigael Sheldon,
Celina McDaniel, and
Raia Uvakova with a time of 2:08.55.
The individual events saw Robinson improve her 1000-yard freestyle time from 13:02.81 to 12:47.29 for a third-place finish and improve her 100-yard backstroke to a new career best of 1:19.68.
Amelia Minarik also improved her career best in the 200-yard freestyle finishing in third with a 2:21.56 shaving off just over a second.
Uvakova represented the Cardinals in third for the 50-yard freestyle (26.89) and 100-yard freestyle (59.74). Sheldon snatched second-place finishes in the 200-yard individual medley (2:25.69) and 100-yard breaststroke (1:16.02). The 100-yard butterfly also had McDaniel take home a second-place finish with a time of 1:08.91.
The men continued the trend earning a victory in the 200-yard medley relay with a season-best time of 1:44.09 off the efforts of
Casey Bretz,
Mihir Chandra,
Griffin Laurin, and
Jack Newman. The same group also put up a second-best time of 1:33.25 in the 200-yard freestyle relay.
For individual events, the 50-yard freestyle saw Chandra take home a victory with a season-best of 21.75,
Julius Markowski followed in fourth (25.27), and Newman took sixth (25.45). Chandra also achieved a first-place position in the 100-yard freestyle with a 48.59 with
Gavin Sheehan following in fifth (58.74) and
Devin Sheehan in sixth (59.89).
Laurin achieved a second-place finish in the 200-yard individual medley with a time of 2:13.86. The Cardinals were also represented by Bretz in second for the 100-yard butterfly with a 55.66 and third in the 100-yard backstroke (57.71) with Markowski following in fourth (1:02.72).
North Central continues the season on the road at the Wheaton College Invitational on December 6th.
