Dec. 7, 2024 - Concluding their five-game homestand, the North Central College women's basketball team fell to Carroll University on Saturday evening inside Gregory Arena, 85-58.

The Pioneers jumped out to an 8-0 lead, forcing a North Central timeout. Biz Daly got the Cardinals on the board with a layup at the 6:28 mark. Joslyn Simmons-Doxie and Elle Sutter scored on back-to-back possessions before Daly capped off a 6-0 run to bring North Central within seven, 15-8. A three pointer from Cate Uhren halted a Carroll rally as the Pioneers held a 26-11 lead after 10 minutes.

Ameli Sanchez kicked off the second quarter with a basket before Uhren buried her second deep ball of the contest. Two straight field goals from Sutter cut into the Carroll lead, 31-20. Another Sutter basket ended a 9-0 run for the visitors. At the break, Carroll led 51-27.

Daly finished an old-fashioned three-point play on the Cardinals' first possession of the third quarter. The teams traded baskets until Grace Kieffer scored in the paint. Megan McClure knocked down a midrange jumper before Daly converted a pair of free throws with nine seconds left as the Pioneers took a 67-44 advantage into the final 10 minutes.
Sutter hit two free throws for the Cardinals to stop a six-point run for Carroll. Sanchez and Keiffer scored layups down the stretch, but the Pioneers secured an 85-58 victory.

Sutter tallied her first double-double of the season with 13 points and 10 rebounds while Daly led the Cardinals with 14 points. As a team, North Central shot 37% from the field and 13% from behind the arc. Emilie Wizner scored 21 points to pace Carroll. The Pioneers shot 51% from the field.

The Cardinals head to Iowa Tuesday to take on Coe College for the second straight season. North Central fell to the Kohawks in a tight 81-80 game last season inside Gregory Arena. This season's contest will tip-off at 4 p.m. at Kohawk Arena in Cedar Rapids.
