Dec. 15, 2024 - For the third consecutive year, the North Central College women's wrestling team won the North Central College Invitational after taking down several top-ranked opponents. The Cardinals had four individual place first in their respective weight classes.
 
North Central finished first with 251 points. The University of Iowa followed in second with 148.5 and McKendree University in third with 148 points. King University took fourth place with 97 points while Lindenwood University rounded out the top-five (93.5).
 
In the 117 A bracket, No. 2 Sydney Petzinger received a bye to start her day before pinning Sacred Heart University's Nohea Moniz in two minutes and 30 seconds. Petzinger conquered McKendree University's Norah Swaim by a technical fall (10-0). In a nail biting semifinal match, Petzinger defeated King University's No. 6 Clare Booe with a 11-10 decision. Petzinger took first-place by defeating Caitlyn Jackson (Lindenwood University) with a dominating 11-0 technical fall. Petzinger finished the day with a 4-0 record.
 
In bracket B of the 117 class, Nadia Thomas recorded three technical falls. The first win came from defeating Haley Teter (Oklahoma State Club) 11-0, followed by a 10-0 win over Destiny Castillo (Midland University), and a 14-2 win over Alexis Hart-Butcher (Adrian College). In the semifinals, Thomas pinned Indiana Institute of Technology's Ava Miller in one minute and 24 seconds. In the championship, Thomas fought to stay in the match and it paid off when she pinned William Jewell College's Miyah Palacios in three minutes and 47 seconds. Thomas finished the day with a spotless 5-0 record to earn her first collegiate tournament title.
 
Top-ranked Amani Jones, of the 124 division, received a bye in round one. In the second round, Jones took down Damiyah Smith (Oklahoma State Club) with an 11-0 technical fall. Jones defeated the University of Iowa's Cali Leng in a swift 10-0 technical fall before pinning No. 4 Aspen Blasko (Grand Valley State University) in two minutes and 48 seconds. In the championship match, Jones held strong to defeat Tiare Ikei (Unattached) by a 8-0 decision. Jones took first place in the tournament and recorded a 4-0 record. Jones is now the all-time leader in career victories in program history. 
 
Clare Waite competed in the 145 (B) bracket. After a bye in the first round, she defeated Haylie Briscoe (William Jewell College) by an 8-0 decision. In the quarterfinals, Waite pinned Aurora University's Olga Turiy (4:01). Waite defeated Southern Oregon University's Sabrina Sifuentez with a 10-0 technical fall. In the championship, Waite faced teammate Caylynn Chandler. Waite beat Chandler by a 9-0 decision. Waite took first place at the tournament and tallied a 4-0 record.

The Cardinals will have one more competition in 2024 on Dec. 30 for the Midlands Championships hosted by Northwestern University. Matches are scheduled to begin at 9 a.m. inside NOW Arena in Hoffman Estates, Ill.
