(Dec. 17, 2024)- North Central College men's wrestling star
Christian Guzman has won his second College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin (CCIW) Wrestler of the Week Award of the season after winning his weight class at the 60th Annual North Central College Invitational held last weekend.
The junior, wrestling in the 125-pound weight class, won his weight class going 4-0 in the bracket as well as winning all his matches with dominance. Guzman scored a 16-1 technical fall win over Kieran Magee (Baldwin Wallace). Andrew Punzalan (Wabash) didn't give much resistance either, losing by an 18-1 tech fall. The semifinal set up a 125-pound bout as No. 10-ranked Wyatt Kaczrowski (Augsburg) looked to take down No. 2-ranked Guzman. Guzman pinned Kaczrowski in two minutes and 56 seconds. In the first place match, Guzman faced another ranked opponent, this time No. 4 ranked Gavin Bradley (Castleton). It was a 16-1 tech fall in favor of Guzman that decided the match. Guzman's efforts at the meet earned him the Outstanding Wrestler of the Meet Award.
Guzman remains undefeated on the season at 15-0 and now has four career CCIW Wrestler of the Week Awards.
Guzman and the Cardinals return to action Thursday, Dec. 19 for duals against the University of Chicago and the University of Olivet. Click HERE for the full schedule.
