WHEATON, Ill. (Dec. 7, 2024) – The North Central College men's and women's swimming and diving teams traveled to compete in the annual Wheaton College Invitational with the men taking seventh and the women taking eighth of eight teams.
On the women's side for team events, they improved to a season-best 1:47.74 in the 200-yard freestyle relay between
Celina McDaniel,
Sydney Sprayberry,
Abigael Sheldon, and
Raia Uvakova. Sheldon took thirteenth in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:15.38), seventeenth in the 200-yard individual medley (2:23.15), and also snatched seventeenth in the 200-yard freestyle for her first time this year finishing in 2:09.66 which is the team's best this season.
Representing the Cardinals in the 500-yard freestyle
Victoria Robinson shaved off ten seconds to improve her season-best time with a finish of 6:15.50. Uvakova flew to fourteenth in the 100-yard freestyle with a season-best time of 56.58 and logged a new season best in the 50-yard freestyle with a finish of 26.12. McDaniel followed suit to improve her season-best time in the 200-yard butterfly with a 2:36.99 for sixteenth place. For the first time this season, the Cardinals competed in the 1,650-yard freestyle with Robinson finishing thirteenth (21:05.95) and Minarik following in fourteenth (21:31.85).
The men's side saw
Clark Wilson,
Jack Newman,
Casey Bretz, and
Mihir Chandra compete in the 200-yard freestyle relay to clock in at a season-best 1:32.56. The Cardinals also took eighteenth in the 200-yard medley relay off the efforts of Bretz, Chandra, Laurin, and Newman finishing with an improvement on their season-best time with 1:41.61. Bretz continued to log a two-second improvement to his season best in the 200-yard individual medley with a 2:00.88. The 200-yard butterfly had
Griffin Laurin take a new season-best of 2:04.41.
Brennan Powell successfully improved his 200-yard breaststroke to 2:34.51 while
Julius Markowski improved his 200-yard backstroke to 59.17.
