Cardinals Victorious in Trio of Matches

Feb. 17, 2024  - Taking on three opponents in one day, the North Central College men's tennis team cruised to a triad of victories with wins over Coe College, Concordia University Chicago, and Lake Forest College on Saturday inside Naperville Tennis Club.

The duos of Wyatt Crowell/Guillermo Gonzalez Fernandez and Ramon Vilarroig Martinez/Matthew Sengphommachanh took care of business against the Kohawks in doubles play. All four of them each picked up wins in singles action as well along with Justin Penados and Rafael Lessa to defeat Coe in the first match of the day, 8-1.

Ned Curley and Henry Ros teamed up to beat the Cougars' No. 1 singles team while Brian Gambuzza and Daniel Urraca Mozos won 8-3 at No. 2. Milan Miskovic and David Vilarroig Martinez rolled to an 8-0 victory at No. 3 doubles. They each secured straight set wins in singles play as well with Dieter Gonzales filling in for Miskovic at No. 5 singles. 

R. Vilarroig Martinez and Sengphommachanh won the first doubles match against Lake Forest with Penados and Daniel Estanislao locked up an 8-3 win at No. 3. Crowell and Gonzalez Fernandez finished off the doubles sweep with an 8-5 victory over their Forester competition. In singles play, Vilarroig Martinez, Sengphommachanh, Penados, Lessa, Ros, and Curley won their matches to complete the 9-0 sweep for North Central.

The Cardinals are back in action on Friday, Feb. 23 as they visit the No. 25 University of Wisconsin-Whitewater. That match will take place at Lake Geneva Tennis Club with a 6 p.m. first serve.
