LAKE GENEVA, Wis. (Feb. 23, 2024) - Heading north to take on their second ranked team of the season, the North Central College men's tennis team fell to the hands of No. 25 University of Wisconsin-Whitewater, 6-3 on Friday night inside Lake Geneva Tennis Club.
After the Warhawks took doubles wins at No. 1 and No. 3, Ramon Vilarroig Martinez and Matthew Sengphommachanh fought to an 8-6 win at No. 2 to remain unbeaten as a duo this season.
In singles play, UW-Whitewater claimed wins at No. 2, 3, and 5 to clinch the victory. Vilarroig Martinez, the No. 17 ranked player in the central region, battled to a 6-1, 3-6, 7-5 win over No. 16 singles player in the country (No. 4 in the region), Luke Vandonslear. Wyatt Crowell also won a three-set match with a 7-6, 4-6, 6-2 win at No. 4 singles.
North Central visits No. 9 Washington University in St. Louis on Saturday, Mar. 2 at Tao Tennis Center. The match is scheduled to begin at 10:30 a.m.
