ST. LOUIS, Mo. (Mar. 2, 2024) - Facing their second ranked team in a row, the North Central College men's tennis earned wins at No. 1 singles and No. 1 doubles, but could not overcome the depth of No. 9 Washington University in St. Louis by falling 7-2 at Tao Tennis Center, the site of the 2024 NCAA DIII National Championships.
Wyatt Crowell and Guillermo Gonzalez Fernandez teammed up at No. 1 doubles to claim an 8-5 victory over Colin Scruggs and Gaurav Singh before the Bears took a 2-1 lead heading into singles play by winning No. 2 & No. 3 doubles.
The Bears captured the first five wins in singles play. Ramon Vilarroig Martinez, the No. 17 ranked singles player in the Central Region, battled to beat Jared Phillips, the No. 20 ranked singles player in the region, 6-1, 7-6 (9-7).
North Central is back in action on Mar. 10 as they head to Florida for their spring break trip. The Cardinals take on Transylvania University at 12:30 p.m. (ET) at Sanlando Park in Orlando.
