Feb. 24, 2024 - The North Central College women's track and field team ended the regular season as champions, hosting the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin (CCIW) indoor championships and winning four events.
North Central seized their fifth straight CCIW championship under the leadership of coaching staff of the year recipient
Kari Kluckhohn with a collective 157.5 points, finishing forty-seven points ahead of Elmhurst University in second. Carthage College placed third followed by Illinois Wesleyan University at fourth, Augustana College at fifth, Millikin University at sixth, North Park University at seventh, Wheaton College at eighth, and Carroll University at ninth.
The Cardinals claimed six champion titles including student-athlete of the meet award winner,
Lindsey Novak snagging two titles between her electric efforts in the 200-meter dash (25.29 seconds) and 400-meter dash (57.79). In the high jump,
Jocelyn Trotter claimed first place with a measurement of 1.57 meters (5 feet, 1.75 inches) with
Kendal Franklin entering a four-way tie for third at 1.52m (4' 11.75"). North Central claimed a decisive team victory in the 4x400 meter relay between the efforts of
Kyla Miller,
Cire' Smith,
Cali Minkie, and Novak finishing in 3:59.76. Smith also took home a win in the 800-meter run finishing in 2:19.11. The pole vault saw
Gwen Berenyi claim first improving her best vault to 3.76m (12' 4") with
Natalie Johnson following in second (3.56m, 11' 8") and
Ariana Rivera tied for third (3.46m, 11' 4.25").
North Central also claimed second in the 60-meter hurdles behind
Denise Partee in 8.89 seconds.
Julia Benes represented the Cardinals in fourth place in the mile run (5:14.66) and 3000-meter run (10:23.59) which placed her ninth in the program's top ten. For the long jump,
Katelyn McCann took second with 5.48m (17' 11.75") while
Alice Sotelo took third in the triple jump (11.46m, 37' 7.25") to take second in the top ten.
The pentathlon had
Hannah Jones in second (3330 points),
Faith Ladin in third (3316), and
Anna Cotter in fourth (2762). This placed Jones in second in the top ten, Ladin just behind in third, and Cotter easing into the eighth slot.
North Central will send competitors to final qualifier events at Carthage College and Ripon College next weekend before the 2024 NCAA Division III Indoor Championships Mar. 8-9 in Virginia Beach, Virginia.
