Men's Tennis Conquers Home Double Feature

NAPERVILLE, Ill. (Feb. 3, 2024) - Adding two wins to their season total, the North Central College men's tennis team cruised to a 9-0 sweep over Kalamazoo College before taking down the Illinois Institute of Technology 8-1 on Saturday at Naperville Tennis Club.

Matthew Sengphommachanh and Ramon Vilarroig Martinez picked up an 8-0 sweep at No. 2 doubles before Rafael Lessa and Daniel Estanislao claimed an 8-2 victory at No. 3. Wyatt Crowell and Guillermo Gonzalez Fernandez fought to an 8-5 win to sweep doubles action. 

Lessa and Crowell earned wins in singles play to clinch the team win for the Cardinals. Vilarroig Martinez, Sengphommachanh, Justin Penados, and Gonzalez Fernandez also posted wins to finish the 9-0 win for North Central in their first match of the day. 

The Cardinals took on the Scarlet Hawks in the second match and recorded wins at No. 1 and No. 2 by dawning the same lineup as the first match.

Vilarroig Martinez and Lessa captured wins before Henry Ros clinched the match with a 6-1, 6-2 win at No. 5. Completing the singles sweep was Penados, Crowell, and Ned Curley.

North Central travels to Indiana on Friday as they take on DePauw University. Last year, the Tigers defeated the Cardinals, 6-3 in Naperville. This year's match is set for 5 p.m. (ET) inside the Indoor Tennis and Track Center in Greencastle.
