GREENCASTLE, Ind. (Feb. 9, 2024) - Winning all six singles matches in straight sets, the North Central College men's tennis team picked up an 8-1 victory over DePauw University.
Ramon Vilarroig Martinez won the 61st singles match of his career to become the program's leader.
Vilarroig Martinez and Matthew Sengphommachanh took care of business at No. 2 doubles to claim the first points of the match with an 8-3 win. Following a Tigers win at No. 3. Giving the Cardinals a point advantage heading into singles play, Wyatt Crowell and Guillermo Gonzalez Fernandez secured a comeback 8-6 victory in the No. 1 doubles fixture.
Gonzalez Fernandez cruised to a 6-1, 6-0 win at No. 6 singles before Justin Penados won 6-0, 6-2 in the No. 3 spot. Clinching the team victory was Wyatt Crowell with a 6-2, 6-3 win over Jake Louiselle at No. 4. Vilarroig Martinez, Rafael Lessa and Sengphommachanh also took home wins in straight sets at their respective positions.
The Cardinals face Carleton College (Minn.) on Sunday at Premier Tennis and Fitness in Janesville, Wis. The match is set to begin at 1 p.m.
