ORLANDO, Fla. (Mar. 10, 2024) - Kicking off their spring break trip with a doubleheader, the North Central College women's tennis team beat Transylvania University, 8-1 before falling to No. 22 Christopher Newport, 8-1 in the night cap on Sunday at Sanlando Park.
Abigail Penados and Natalie Bassett took care of business at No. 1 doubles while Kensington Payne and Anastasia Bozovic cruised to an 8-2 win at No. 2. Finishing the doubles sweep was Mikayla Edquiban and Kate Herlihy with an 8-5 victory at No. 3.
Bassett earned a 6-2, 6-0 win at No, 2 singles with Payne winning 6-1, 6-1 at No. 3. Herlihy fought to a 7-5, 6-2 victory in the No. 3 position. Kayla McSweeney rolled to a 6-1, 6-0 win before Liveta Ezerskis won 6-1, 6-4 in the No. 6 fixture.
In the Cardinals' second match of the day, The Captains swept doubles play and took a 3-0 lead heading into singles action. Nina Patience captured the lone point for North Central with a 6-1, 6-4 win at No. 5 singles. Christopher Newport won all of the other singles matches in straight sets.
The Cardinals face Haverford College at 9:30 a.m. (ET) tomorrow morning before taking on No. 25 Denison University at 6 p.m. at the USTA National Campus.
