ORLANDO, Fla. (Mar. 11, 2024) - Facing tough competition for the second straight day, the North Central College women's tennis team fell to the hands of Haverford College, 6-3, and No. 25 Denison University, 5-4 on Monday in Orlando.
In the first match of the day, the Cardinals fell down 3-0 early as the Fords swept doubles action. Anastasia Bozovic captured the first win of the day for North Central with a 6-1, 2-6, 10-7 victory at No. 6. Kensington Payne also went into a tiebreaker, earning a comeback 0-6, 7-6 (7-3), 10-4 win. Claiming the Cardinals' third point of the day was Abigail Penados who won 7-5, 5-7 before defeating Abbey Russano in a super set.
Penados and Natalie Bassett prevented a second doubles sweep in the second match, earning an 8-5 win in the No. 1 doubles position. Denison held a 2-1 edge heading into singles play.
Evening the match was Penados with a 6-2, 6-3 win before Nina Patience put the Cardinals ahead by one with a 6-4, 6-2 win at No. 5. Bozovic overcame a first set loss to earn a 4-6, 6-2, 10-5 win at No. 6. With the match tied 4-4, the Big Red earned a win at No. 4 to clinch the match victory, 5-4.
North Central finishes its spring break trip with a match on Wednesday against Trinity College (Conn.) at 12:30 p.m. at Sylvan Lake in Orlando.
