DECATUR/BLOOMINGTON, Ill. (Apr. 12, 2024) - Heading down south to take on two College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin teams, the North Central College men's tennis team swept Millikin University in the morning before sweeping the Titans of Illinois Wesleyan University in the afternoon.
Getting an early start against the Big Blue, the Cardinals entered play up 3-0 due to forfeits at No. 3 doubles and No. 5/6 singles from Millikin. Wyatt Crowell and Henry Ros cruised to an 8-2 win. Ramon Vilarroig Martinez and Matthew Sengphommachanh battled to an 8-7 (10-8) victory at the No. 1 spot to clinch the match victory. Vilarroig Martinez, Sengphommachanh, Justin Penados, and Crowell claimed singles victories as well to give the Cardinals a 9-0 victory.
Traveling to Bloomington after the Millikin match, North Central picked up where they left off with a clean sweep of doubles play. Rafael Less and Daniel Estanislao won 8-5 at No. 3 doubles with Crowell/Ros winning 8-4. Vilarroig Martinez/Sengphommachanh fought to win 8-7 (7-4) at No. 1.
Lessa and Ros rolled to straight-set wins in singles play, clinching the team win. Vilarroig Martinez, Sengphommachanh, Penados, and Estanislao also picked up wins to finish off the 9-0 win.
The Cardinals wrap up the regular season on Tues., Apr. 3 at Wheaton College. North Central has already locked up the No. 1 seed in the CCIW Tournament with wins over the Titans and Carthage earlier this season.
