Apr. 14, 2024 - Taking on No. 38 University of Wisconsin-Whitewater for the second straight match, the North Central College women's tennis team battled to a 5-4 victory over the Warhawks on Sunday afternoon as the team celebrated its two seniors,
Mikayla Edquiban and
Nina Patience.
Edquiban and Kayla McSweeney rolled to an 8-2 win at No. 3 doubles while Natalie Bassett and Abigail Penados earned an 8-5 win, giving the Cardinals a 2-1 edge heading into singles play.
UW-Whitewater tied the match at 3-3 by winning No. 6 and No. 3 singles before winning a three-set match at No. 1 to take a 4-2 advantage halfway through singles. Kate Herlihy claimed a clutch tiebreaker win (6-4, 3-6, 10-6) at No. 5 to keep the Cardinals alive. Bassett fought to a 6-4, 4-6, 10-6 win at No. 2 singles, tying the match at 4-4 with No. 4 left. Molly Asfeld and Patience battled it out with the senior Patience winning 7-5, 7-5 to capture the 5-4 win for North Central.
The Cardinals wrap up the regular season by hosting No. 11 Case Western Reserve University on Saturday, Apr. 20 at 12 p.m.
