KENOSHA, Wis. (Apr. 16, 2024) - A late rally brought the North Central College softball team a victory at Carthage College Tuesday, as the Cardinals wound up splitting a double header with the Firebirds at Wiers Family Stadium.

The Cardinals (19-5, 4-2 College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin) trailed, 2-0, after Carthage opened the scoring in the first inning and were held scoreless until Talia Torosian's fifth-inning single brought Katie Del Re home for the visitors' first run. North Central took its first lead in the sixth, as Lauren Bowmar walked and Kayla Crabtree singled before both crossed the plate on a double by Emma Friedlund.

The guests extended their lead to 5-2 in the seventh as Rachael Madsen doubled to score Sarah Lynch before scoring on an error. Madsen finished with two doubles and a sacrifice hit in a 2 for 3 effort in the day's first game. Juliana Maude pitched all seven innings and improved to 9-1 with the victory, striking out six and walking two.

The Cardinals led early in the second game after a first-inning sacrifice fly by Torosian, but a two-run home run in the second put Carthage (17-11, 5-5 CCIW) in front before the hosts took firm control of the contest with a three-run third inning.

Madsen reached on a fielder's choice to drive home Del Re in the bottom of the third, and Del Re brought home Charlotte Toosley on a sacrifice bunt in the seventh, but the Firebirds hammered out 14 hits to keep clear of North Central the rest of the way.

Hailey Morsovillo went 3 for 3 in the nightcap while Del Re finished 2 for 3. Del Re has gone 12 for 16 at the plate in the past six games.  Click HERE for the full 2024 schedule and live coverage options.
