No. 37 Women’s Tennis Downed by No. 27 Grinnell

MADISON, Wis. (Apr. 5, 2024) – In their opening match of the Midwest Invitational, the North Central College women's tennis team lost 6-3 to Grinnell College on Friday afternoon.

In the first match of the day, the Pioneers took two of the three doubles matches as Abigail Penados and Natalie Bassett fought to an 8-7 (7-4) win in the No. 1 position.

Bassett claimed the first singles win with a 6-2, 6-0 win to even the score at 2-2. Grinnell won at No. 3 and No. 4 before Penados battled to a 7-5, 7-5 (9-7) win over the No. 12 ranked player in the Central Region, Irene Agusti to keep the Cardinals' hopes alive. The Pioneers took the final two matches to claim a 6-3 win.

North Central will face No. 38 University of Wisconsin-Whitewater tomorrow (Apr. 5) at 3 p.m. for day two of the Midwest Invitational at Nielsen Tennis Stadium.
