ROCK ISLAND, Ill. (May 4, 2024) - A united team effort pushed the North Central College women's track and field team to victory at the College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW) Outdoor Championships on Saturday. The Cardinals scored significant points in nearly every event and collected their fifth straight outdoor championship.
The Cardinals scored 203.5 points to finish well ahead of the field as Augustana College and Elmhurst University placed second (135) and third (112), respectively.
Hannah Jones opened the Cardinals' success in the field. Jones delivered a 144-foot and two-inch toss in the javelin throw. Jones' new personal record ranks first in the program's outdoor top 10 records and seventh in Division III. Jones also recorded a first-place finish in the 400-meter hurdles (1:06.25).
Additionally, in the javelin throw was
Faith Ladin. Ladin placed second with a throw of 135 feet and three inches (41.22m). Ladin, the lone Cardinal in the heptathlon, also recorded a first-place finish with 4775 points, 69 points ahead of any other athlete.
Natalie Johnson and
Gwen Berenyi finished first (11 '09", 3.58m) and second (11' 09", 3.58m) in the pole vault.
Alexandra Draves finished second in the hammer throw with a toss of 177 feet and 11 inches (54.23m).
Marcedes Jackson took first place in the 100-meter dash with a time of 11.87 seconds. In the 800-meter run,
Cire' Smith finished in second place with a time of two minutes and 19.21 seconds.
Lindsey Novak earned a first-place finish in the 400-meter dash (56.97) and a second-place finish in the 200-meter dash (24.48). Novak's second-place finish in the 200-meter dash currently sits at No. 7 in Division III this season.
The Cardinals 4-by-100 relay team of Jackson,
Kyla Miller,
Allie Dockins, and Novak finished first in 46.97 seconds. Their time currently ranks No. 7 in Division III and fourth in the program's outdoor top-ten records.
The 4-by-400 relay team of
Cali Minkie,
Lovenya Perry, Smith, and Novak finished first in three minutes and 57.51 seconds.
North Central's coaching staff was presented with the CCIW Coaching Staff of the Year award at the conclusion of the meeting. Novak was named the Track Athlete of the Meet.
The CCIW also announced the nine winners of its RESPECT Award for the season. RESPECT Award recipients have distinguished themselves as an integral member of the team, their institution, and their community by upholding the values of Responsibility, Enthusiasm, Service, Pride, Excellence, Collaboration, and Trust. The RESPECT Award recognizes the intangible traits a student-athlete possesses that exemplify great character and encourage inclusiveness and a positive culture. North Central's RESPECT Award honoree is
Erica Johnson.
North Central will host the Carius-Gregory Invitational on May 9 beginning at 11 a.m. and May 10 at 1 p.m. at Benedetti-Wehrli Stadium.
