Luke Lehnen has been honored by the American Baseball Coaches Association for his defensive excellence in center field by earning his spot on the Region 8 All-Defensive Team.
The ABCA began honoring All-Region Defensive players last season. Lehnen earned the ABCA/Rawlings Gold Glove award in 2022 and claimed All-Region Defensive honors in both 2023 and 2024. The 2024 ABCA NCAA Div. III Region All-Defensive teams have been announced in all 10 regions. The teams are voted on by members of the American Baseball Coaches Association and the process is led by the ABCA NCAA Div. III All-America & Coach of the Year Committee.
Lehnen, who was named the spring College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin Jack Swartz Academic All-Conference winner for a male athlete at North Central due to his success in the classroom and on the field on Thursday, adds to his long list of accolades as a Cardinal with this honor.
Lehnen posted a .988 fielding percentage in center field, playing all 41 games for the Cardinals. In his 83 chances, Lehnen tallied 80 putouts and two assists this season.
Offensively, Lehnen hit .351 with 60 hits, 35 runs, 22 RBI, 17 walks, 12 stolen bases, five doubles, two triples and a home run. On Apr. 27, he hit for the cycle in North Central's comeback 12-10 win over Carthage College. On the mound, Lehnen tallied six saves which is tied for 19th in Division III. He posted a 2.38 ERA with 17 strikeouts over his 11.1 innings pitched.
