BRIDGEWATER, MA. (Aug. 30, 2024) – The North Central College women's soccer team began the 2024 season on the road against the Bridgewater University Bears, rocketing ahead four unanswered goals in the second half to pull away 7-2.

North Central (1-0) found itself on the backfoot early as only three minutes into the match Bridgewater's (0-1) Hope Montgomery broke away to send the first goal of the game past Jordan Boyd. The Cardinals found a rhythm two minutes later sending three shots at Logan Levesque in goal. Ten minutes into the half Sarah Andrey and Elle Sutter found an open Madison DeVriendt to tie up the score 1-1.

The Bears and Cardinals continued to battle up and down the field until the 24th minute when Andrey found room to score with an assist from Gabriella Galvez to push the Cardinals to their first lead, 2-1. A determined Sydney Dewhurst scored the final goal for Bridgewater just four minutes later to tie the game.

Bridgewater kept North Central from scoring for the next 10 minutes of competition until a costly foul set up Sutter for her first penalty kick goal of the season, inching the Cardinals ahead 3-2 into halftime.

Forty seconds into the second half, North Central's Sutter kept the momentum going after zooming ahead with a pass to Jordan Lange for the first goal of a four-goal Cardinal onslaught. Just over two minutes later Sutter found her second goal of the game after a pass from Madelyn Camaioni, pushing the lead, 5-2.

The Cardinals maintained their offensive dominance getting the best of Levesque in goal one last time as Yazmin Martinez found DeVriendt for her second goal of the game. After a goalie change for Bridgewater, their defense would settle in for the final thirty minutes of regulation, allowing one more goal as Galvez found Kassandra Salviola to seal the scoring up at 7-2.

In total, the Cardinals outshot the Bears twenty-five to eight with fourteen shots on goal to their five. On defense, Boyd tallied three saves through all ninety minutes of play.
