BEVERLY, MA. (Sept. 1, 2024) – The North Central College women's soccer team faced the Endicott College Gulls for the first time in program history, getting outpaced early 3-1 in their second match of the 2024 season.
The Cardinals (1-1) entered their second non-conference game after a 7-2 win over the Bridgewater State Bears. The Gulls (2-0) stifled the high-powered Cardinal offense early, blocking four scoring attempts in the first ten minutes. Six minutes later, Endicott's Riley Rischitelli found room past
Olivia Mattison for the game's first goal.
North Central continued to feel the heat as the next ten minutes saw a determined battle for possession resulting in another goal for the Gulls from Chloe Bauman for a two-goal lead. The Cardinals held the Gulls away from goal until eight minutes remained when Gabrielle Klindtworth scored the third and final goal for Endicott.
North Central continued to be held away from goal for the rest of the half, only finding two more scoring attempts from
Jordan Lange.
Beginning the second period the Cardinals looked to flip the script, just five minutes in Lange was the first to shoot narrowly deflecting off the post. Five minutes later
Elle Sutter put a shot on goal that was grabbed by Endicott's Rosalina Caliri.
The struggle for possession continued as
Jordan Boyd at goal for the Cardinals fended off a penalty kick with thirty-six minutes left from Samantha Klimas to keep the game at 3-0. The defense clamped down on the Endicott offense, finally allowing Lange to connect with Sutter putting the Cardinals on the board 3-1 with seventeen minutes remaining.
Offensively, North Central only shot four more times as the Gulls held the score at 3-1. The Cardinals collectively took sixteen shots with only five on target while Endicott took thirteen with five on target. Mattison clocked in for the first half of regulation in goal allowing three goals while Boyd took the field in the second half securing two saves.
