North Central (2-1) looked to turn around their fortunes after a 3-1 loss to Endicott College on Sunday. The first fifteen minutes saw a determined battle for the first score as the Cardinals sent three shots on goal while the defense kept the Stars' (0-2) three attempts away from
Jordan Boyd.
With twenty-eight minutes left,
Madison DeVriendt found an open
Elle Sutter to put the Cardinals on the board first. The offense kept the tempo with
Jordan Lange shooting three times over the next ten minutes to keep the pressure on. The Dominican defense gave way to allow a pass from
Madelyn Camaioni to Sutter for her second goal of the game putting North Central ahead, 2-0.
The rest of the half saw a determined effort from the Cardinals, keeping the Stars to only four more shooting attempts with only one needing to be saved by Boyd.
Beginning the second half, Dominican came out with the first two shots just two minutes in. It didn't take long for the Stars to find room to score as in the seventh minute of the half, Ariana Barney broke free to end the Cardinal dominance. With North Central still leading at 2-1, Dominican came right back three minutes later with a shot from Mia Dosen to tie the game.
The Cardinals feeling the heat, put forth another three shots until the seventeenth minute when Sutter scored her third goal of the match to inch North Central back on top, 3-2. A spirited effort on both ends of the field led to a scoreless sixteen minutes of play.
Sarah Andrey then added her name to the scorebook after a pass from
Madison DeVriendt to keep the game out of reach of the Stars.
Dominican continued to try to get meaningful shots over the last twelve minutes of play but, were allowed only one final shot that Boyd bottled up to seal the game at 4-2.
