2024 IWLCA Academic Honor Squads
2024 IWLCA NCAA Division III Academic Honor Roll
Aug. 9, 2024Â - The North Central College women's lacrosse program has been recognized with team and individual honors from the Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA) for its outstanding academic performance during the 2023-2024 academic year.
For the 13th time in 15 seasons, the Cardinals have been named an IWLCA Academic Honor Squad for maintaining a team grade-point average of 3.20 or higher. North Central is one of 325 teams nationwide and 151 at the NCAA Division III level to be so honored. Other College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW) representatives on the list are the University of Chicago, Carroll University and Illinois Wesleyan University.
The Cardinals also have a program-record eight student-athletes on the IWLCA's Division III Academic Honor Roll, which this year consists of 1,125 student-athletes from 201 institutions. North Central's eight selections are among 25 honorees from the CCIW. To be eligible, student-athletes must be a junior, senior or graduate student with a cumulative GPA of at least 3.50.
North Central's award winners include seniors
Ellie Gosselin,
Reese McMullen and
Madison Smith, along with juniors
Lucy Culig,
Tori Leonard,
Abby MacKenzie,
Annelise Oster and
Taylor Smith. McMullen is a two-time honoree.
Gosselin,a psychology/sociology double major, started four times in five games in 2024, scoring two goals. McMullen (global studies/Spanish) ranked fourth on the team in goals scored (17), while
Madison Smith (accounting/economics) was North Central's recipient of the CCIW's RESPECT Award.
Culig (accounting) scored 26 goals to rank third on the team while Leonard (global studies/Chinese) moved up to sixth in the program's history in caused turnovers (64). MacKenzie (biomedical sciences) earned First Team All-CCIW honors after leading the team in goals (46), ground balls (40) and draw controls (86), Oster (accounting) turned in a team-high 14 assists and
Taylor Smith (accounting/entrepreneurship) led the Cardinals with 22 caused turnovers.Â
The Cardinals finished the 2024 season with an overall record of 7-7, with a 2-4 finish in CCIW play.Â
