Sept. 1, 2024 - The North Central College men's soccer team tied 1-1 with Gustavus Adolphus College, while Eloi Nyibizi scored the Cardinals' first goal of the 2024 season Sunday afternoon in Benedetti Wehrli Stadium.

In the 11th minute, North Central's Luis Aviles got the first shot on goal of the day, but the Gustie's goalkeeper, Egan Bedwell, made the save. The next shot on goal was made by Davis Nelson. Nelson kicked the ball to the bottom center of the net, but Bedwell made the stop.

The Gusties' defender, Spencer Skjeldstad, found space in North Central territory to put a shot on goal. Luckily, Trevor Share tracked the ball on the way to the net and made the catch. The first half ended in a 0-0 tie.

Gustavus capitalized early in the second half. In the 55th minute, Leo Runestad passed the ball to Simon Woods, who sent it into the back of the Cardinals' net.

North Central was fast to respond to the Gusties. With traffic in on the right side of the field, Aviles crossed the ball over to the right side to connect with Nyibizi. While Bedwell tried to track down the ball, Nyibizi fired it into the back of the net, tying the game once again (62:10).

The game clock continued to run, and after a couple more shots on goal from both teams, the final horn went off. The Cardinals and the Gusties ended their second game of the season in a tie.

North Central will take on Trine University on Friday, Sept. 6, at 4 p.m. in Angola, Ind.
