Sept. 10, 2024 - The North Central College men's soccer team saw their two-game winning streak come to an end with a 4-0 loss to No. 7 University of Chicago late Tuesday night.
The Maroons scored just two minutes into the game when Jack Leuker snuck the ball past the Cardinals goalkeeper,
Trevor Share. Chicago gained momentum and increased the pace of the game. In the sixth minute, Maroons Evan Kanellos' pass met Danny Mendoza, who put the ball onto the back of the net.
North Central did not back down and continued to fight back.
Jared Urueta looked to split the Maroons lead in half, sending the ball to the bottom center of the net, but Chicago's goalie Dhirpal Shah was able to handle the ball (21:39). The clock ticked down, and the Cardinals were not able to capitalize.
Coming into the second half with a two-goal deficit, North Central looked to get back into the game with a shot on goal from
Peter Kimba. However, in the 57th-minute, Chicago's Sam Jimenez passed the ball up to Mendoza, scoring his second goal of the night (57:54).
Tommaso Polidori fired the ball to the Maroons goalkeeper, but he was able to make the catch (67:20). Later on,
Trey Zakeri sent the ball to the top of the net, but Shah was able to get a glove on it.
Chicago's Ethan Peet connected with Jadyn Hsieh-Bailey in the 82nd-minute, scoring the game's final goal and securing a 4-0 victory for the Maroons.
North Central is back in action next when they travel to Viets Field in Milwaukee, Wis., to face Milwaukee School of Engineering at 7 p.m. Sept. 13.
