Sept. 11, 2024 – The North Central College women's soccer team looked to flip program history after two losses against Calvin University, Sarah Andrey led the effort with two goals to beat the Knights for the first time, 4-2.

North Central (4-2) found themselves on the back foot early as over a minute into the match, Olivia Rawls broke away for a goal to put Calvin (1-2-1) on top for the only time. The Cardinals quickly fired back as Elle Sutter broke away to pass to Jordan Lange tying the score back up at 1-1.

The Cardinal offense kept the pressure on as six minutes later, Sutter shot to force a save out of Kalex Dodge at goal for the Knights. Calvin also kept the heat on with a shot from Sophie Mueller in the 16th minute that Olivia Mattison smothered up. Under two minutes later Andrey scored her first goal of the match to push North Central ahead 2-1.

The offenses continued to trade shots as both Dodge and Mattison were forced to make a save over the next ten minutes. In the 29th minute, Yazmin Martinez lasered a goal past Dodge after an assist from Sutter forcing the score to 3-1. Calvin did not give North Central any breathing room as two minutes later, Mueller scored to force the score back within one.

With the score at 3-2, the defenses began to settle in as the Cardinals only found one more shooting opportunity while the Knights only found two before halftime.

Entering the second period, the Knights found the first shot-on-goal attempt from Liz Williams seven minutes in. The Cardinals fired back with two quality attempts from Victoria Jaimes and Madison DeVriendt in the 55th and 56th minutes. Sixty seconds later Gabriella Galvez assisted Andrey to her second goal of the match to lift the Cardinals to a 4-2 lead.

The remaining thirty-three minutes saw Calvin battle to try to break the North Central defense, firing off seven shots with only one needing to be saved by Mattison.

In total, the Cardinals shot twenty times with ten on target while the Knights shot twenty-four times with eight on target. On defense, Mattison secured the net with six saves through all ninety minutes.
