STERLING, Ill. (Sept. 22, 2024) - Beating Augustana College for the ninth straight time, the North Central College women's tennis team cruised to a 7-0 win behind six straight set victories in singles play on Sunday afternoon inside Westwood Fitness and Sports Center.
Abigail Penados and Kensington Payne picked up the first win of the day for the Cardinals, with a 6-0 win at the top spot. Shortly after the conclusion of the No. 1 doubles match, the freshman duo of Ainara Casado Cedillo and Priya Harris won 6-1 at the No. 3 position to claim a team point for North Central.
After Penados won 6-0, 6-1 at the No. 1 singles position over Hannah Colbert, Kate Herlihy cruised to a 6-0, 6-1 win at the No. 4 spot as she remains unbeaten in singles play this season. Clinching the match for the Cardinals was Payne who claimed a 6-0, 6-1 win over Anna-Maria Huebel at No. 2. Harris, Casado Cedillo and Liveta Ezerskis each won in straight sets to give North Central a 7-0 victory.
The Cardinals go for their 50th straight win in College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin play on Tuesday, as they visit Millikin University. The first serve is set for 4 p.m. at Fairview Park Tennis Complex.
