ALBION, MICH. (Sept. 8, 2024) - The North Central College men's soccer team ended their weekend road trip Sunday with a perfect record (2-0) when they defeated Albion College 1-0 inside of Alumni Stadium.
North Central (2-1-1) and Albion (0-3) started the afternoon with even play, but it was North Central who was able to look at the net first.
Jared Urueta saw the first scoring chance, but Albion's goalkeeper, Tom Veresh, stopped and eliminated the Cardinal's scoring chance (25:11). The Britons recorded one shot in the first half at the 30-minute mark. Their midfielder Drew Barker was off target, kicking the ball above the top of the net.
Davis Nelson ended the first half with one last shot to the bottom of the Albion goal, but Veresh made the save as the horn sounded.
The second half continued deadlocked until the 54 minute mark. With six minutes left of the game,
Tommaso Polidori found the back of the net to tally his first goal of the season and break the stalemate. As time ticked down, Albion could not find the back of the net, and the Cardinals earned their second consecutive win. North Central outshot Albion 10-2 in the second half of the game, including no chances on net for the Britons.
North Central is back on home turf in Benedetti-Wehrli Stadium Tuesday, Sept. 10, at 7:30 p.m. when the Cardinals host No. 7 University of Chicago in Naperville, Ill.
