Sept. 8, 2024 – The North Central College women's soccer team won their second program matchup against Ohio Wesleyan University in a 3-2 fashion, marking head coach Andrew Gamarra's 100th career victory.

North Central (3-2) and Ohio Wesleyan (3-1) both struggled to find meaningful offensive possessions early in the match. The first shot wouldn't come until fourteen minutes in when Sarah Andrey fired one over the top post. The Cardinals continued to pepper the goal two minutes later as Andrey and Elle Sutter laid on the pressure.

In the 25th minute, Ava Bruns for the Bishops found a gap in the Cardinal defense to push the first goal of the match through. Jordan Lange looked to even the score two minutes later when Natalie Ryan at goal stymied the attempt.

Ohio Wesleyan retaliated in the final ten minutes, with two more shots on goal of their own from Tiffany Trinh and Mia Bucci. With just over thirty seconds left in the period, Grace Moote attempted to even the score before halftime, but Ryan again smothered it up.

Beginning the second half, the Cardinal offense heated up quickly as Andrey and Sutter each took a blocked shot forty seconds in. North Central continued to hammer the Ohio Wesleyan defense taking six shots over the next ten minutes. In the 62nd minute the teams would duel with shots on goal first from Avery Curtin followed by Lange.

Lange fired off again three minutes later narrowly being saved by Ryan. After another two minutes ticked off the clock, a costly Bishop foul gave Lange a penalty kick attempt that was barely saved. Kassandra Salviola followed shortly after finally tying the score at 1-1.

The Cardinal offense built off the energy, scoring two more goals in under three minutes of each other from Andrey and Lange with assists from Madison DeVriendt and Carly Campbell in the 76th and 79th minutes.

With North Central firmly ahead, the Bishops obtained one more goal with over five minutes remaining from Kaylee DeShong. The Cardinal defense shut down the Ohio Wesleyan offense for the final five minutes sealing up the action at 3-2.

In total, the Cardinal offense took a combined twenty-six shots with ten on target to the Bishops' eight and five. At goal, Olivia Mattison locked in three saves through all ninety minutes of action while Ryan fended off seven Cardinal scoring attempts.
