CHICAGO (Jan. 11, 2025) – The North Central College men's and women's swimming and diving teams traveled to Chicago for a double dual against the Illinois Institute of Technology Scarlet Hawks and Manchester University Spartans. While the men were outpaced by both the Scarlet Hawks (162-43) and Spartans (139-65), the women pulled away from Manchester for an overwhelming 111-67 point victory.
Sydney Sprayberry led the women with a victory in the 50-yard freestyle in a lightning-fast 27.42 seconds with
Caitlin Suda following in fourth (28.66). Sprayberry also sealed a second place finish in the 100-yard freestyle clocking in at 59.77 seconds.
Celina McDaniel snatched a second place finish in the 200-yard breaststroke with a finish of 2:59.86 while the 200-yard backstroke saw
Charlotte Kumler take third (2:30.04) with
Taylor Robinson following in fifth (2:45.47). Representing the Cardinals in the 500-yard freestyle, Robinson finished in the middle of the pack in third with a finish of 6:16.43. Robinson also took a fifth place position (2:17.08) in the 200-yard freestyle with
Amelia Minarik following behind (2:25.05). The 1000-yard freestyle saw
Victoria Robinson come in third with 14:07.47 while Camile Cassata followed with 14:17.40. On the 200-yard medley relay side a combined effort from Kumler, Sude, Lemke, and Sprayberry took second in 2:10.76.
Griffin Laurin led the way on the men's side with a victory in the 1000-yard freestyle in 11:13.53 minutes with a 24 second gap from the next opponent. Griffin also snagged fifth in the 200-yard butterfly (2:11.25) and fourth in the 500-yard freestyle (5:30.86). The 200-yard backstroke had
Casey Bretz cruise to a first place finish for the team's season best and program's fifth best time of 2:02.52 while the 200-yard breaststroke saw
Brennan Powell mark in at 2:37.94 for third place. Bretz also earned a second place finish in the 200-yard individual medley with a final time of 2:04.10.
The Cardinals return home to host a meet against Augustana College, Millikin University, and Wheaton College on January 25th.
